Recently, a report from the market research company IDC showed that in the third quarter of 2012, Apple’s smartphone market ranking in China has dropped to the sixth place with a market share below 10%.
IDC said that Apple’s share of the Chinese smartphone market in the third quarter fell 2% from the second quarter. In the third quarter of this year, Apple’s share in the Chinese smartphone market has fallen below 10%.
IDC’s data released in October showed that Samsung’s smart phone shipments in the third quarter were estimated at 56.3 million units, with a global market share of 31.3%, and a huge lead. The second-ranked apple sales volume was 2690 over the same period. Ten thousand, with a market share of 15%, is still less than half of Samsung Electronics. RIM ranked third, its smart phone shipments were 7.7 million, ZTE and HTC ranked fourth and fifth respectively with 7.5 million and 7.3 million shipments. Nokia, the former overlord, even fell out of the top five after losing its long standing position.
In the second quarter of this year, shipments of smart phones in the Chinese market surpassed that of feature phones for the first time. Lenovo surpassed Apple to become China's second-largest smart machine manufacturer. Apple fell from second to third in the first quarter. IDC said that in the second quarter of the Chinese market mobile phone shipments were 87 million, of which smart phones shipped 44 million, accounting for 51%. Lenovo’s market share in the quarter increased from single digits in the first quarter to 11%.
