USB 3.0 Promotion Group Releases USB 3.0 Specification Supplementary Standard

The USB 3.0 Promotion Group announced the USB 3.0 standard additional standard "USB On-The-Go 3.0 and Embedded Host", which allows direct communication between portable devices that support the USB 3.0 interface without using a PC. The host plays an intermediary role.

With this supplementary specification, portable USB 3.0 mobile devices such as mobile phones and cameras can be directly connected through an interface, and it can be either a USB Host host or a USB Peripheral peripheral, in other words, a master-slave mode. This specification is especially useful for devices that require fast synchronization and large-capacity data streaming.

The USB OTG 3.0 and Embedded Host Supplement also include the power-saving features provided in USB OTG 2.0, while maintaining backward compatibility, which means that USB 3.0/2.0 devices can also communicate directly with each other.

The USB 3.0 Promotion Group has transferred the management of this supplemental specification to the official USB-IF organization and incorporated as part of the USB 3.0 specification.
