MathWorks today announced the launch of the RoboTIcs System Toolbox, a new product that is part of Release 2015a. Through out-of-the-box algorithms and hardware connectivity for developing automated mobile robot applications, RoboTIcs System Toolbox provides common robotic algorithms and interfaces and integrations between MATLAB and Simulink and the Robotic Operating System (ROS). Robotics researchers and engineers can now develop robotic algorithms in a single, unified design environment to test and deploy robotic algorithms on ROS-enabled robots and robot simulators such as Gazebo and V-REP. It leaves more time to test and debug the algorithm by reducing the manual modification time required to convert from a MATLAB program to a ROS program. The core algorithms provided in the RoboTIcs System Toolbox include map representations, path planning and path tracking for differentially driven robots. Engineers can now design and prototype motor control, computer vision, and state machine applications using MATLAB or Simulink, which they can integrate with the core algorithms in the RoboTIcs System Toolbox. Engineers can also generate ROS nodes from Simulink models and deploy them to ROS networks through automatically generated C++ code. Students and faculty in robotics have used MATLAB and Simulink to develop algorithms, visualize robot behavior, and analyze log data. Now they can use MATLAB and Simulink to program robots or emulators while continuing to use the MathWorks hardware support package to communicate with other robot hardware.
