2018 CES has closed in Las Vegas, USA. As the world's largest and most influential consumer electronics technology exhibition, every time we can be shocked by the various technologies and products it displays, it has become a wind vane in the scientific and technological community.

In this year, in the past, the "net red" on CES - augmented reality and virtual reality, has gradually become a normal technology, is moving towards commercial standardization and slowly entering a benign market, and is steadily and steadily popularized at the mass level. This year's CES also set up a special area for AR, which shows that the organizers attach great importance to AR products.

In recent years, there have been more and more exhibitors in China, and ARinChina can always see many old friends. As the leading supplier of AR optical solutions in China, Nidejia presented the “glass-grade” AR optical solution-F2 to customers at this CES, and publicly released the reference design for the first time.

Nedjia CES live photo

At last week's scene, ARinChina and Nedjia's COO, Mr. Duan Jiaxi, talked about CES together, and also talked about AR optics. It was also a lot of Nedjia's decision-making direction in 2018!

ARC: First of all, let's give you an intuitive experience! What is the overall evaluation of CES this year?

Duan Jiaxi: It can be said that it is a law-abiding one. There is basically no breakthrough and revolutionary progress. Even in the hot field of concepts such as AR/VR/AI, it is only a small step forward. It is said that Chinese companies have accounted for 35% this year, which I think is a good phenomenon. Regardless of whether there is real material or PR blowing, Chinese local technology companies have begun to increase the speed of internationalization and climb to the upstream of the industrial chain.

ARC: Which kind of product do you personally care about most, and what products are impressed?

Duan Jiaxi: As an industry practitioner in the AR industry, I mainly focus on AR and optical solutions. Israel's Lumus, South Korea's LeTInAR and domestic consonants are all AR optical solutions, the results are not bad, to promote the development of the industry, it is worthy of praise, I am very much looking forward to their mass production.

ARC: What is the core technology and hardware of Nedjia's external display at this CES? Let us introduce the R&D process and design ideas?

Duan Jiaxi: The AR/VR optical solution is our core technology. The hardware is an optical module (optical machine) which is an integral optical solution including optical lens/display system/structure/drive board.

At present, there are three main points for external display: the leading indicators (FOV, resolution, weight, etc.), the top effect, and the ability to mass production. It is important to be able to mass-produce, because there are many concepts and samples of optical solutions in this industry, and it is very rare to achieve mass production. Therefore, when we introduce optical solutions, an important consideration is the mass production with current processes and materials.

Our main product is a resin free-form optical solution, and there are also many optical waveguide technology reserves, and have been verified in the sample stage. According to our judgment, most of the technology is difficult to mass-produce with the current process, the price is too high (1000 US dollars - 600 US dollars / piece), if the optical waveguide solution is used, AR glasses are priced at least 3,000 US dollars, let alone C-end buy Can't afford, B also has to bite his teeth.

Therefore, ensuring the effect while ensuring mass production at a reasonable price is the main reason why Nedjia can be a supplier of optical solutions for many domestic and foreign AR glasses companies.

Nidejia should be regarded as a college entrepreneur in the AR industry. It has been relatively stable. Although the brand promotion and the volume in the industry are not large, we attach great importance to the company's cash flow and stable revenue. Take on our R&D and company operating costs.

Just as researchers need the attitude of “bringing boldly and cautiously seeking evidence”. This way does not mean that we can't get the money. On the contrary, it is not bad money. I think it is more favored by capital, not only VC, but also the future Tier 1 capital market. Of course, I also hope that ARC, an authoritative industry media, will pay more attention to us in the future and thank you in advance!

ARC: At this CES, what is the difference between your latest optical module and other modules? How to understand its design ideas and significant features?

Nedjia F2 Optics

Duan Jiaxi: It is called F2. This is our optical module for C-end AR glasses. It is the combination of free-form surfaces and optical waveguides. Has three major technical advantages:

• Lightweight, optical solution with a thickness of 5mm and controlled within 10g (single eye);

• Shapeable, using optical resin material, can be molded into different shapes to meet different eyeglass design needs;

• Adjustable visibility, the myopia is achieved in the AR lens, no need to wear two pairs of glasses. This should be considered the first in the world.

At present, it is a T1 sample. It is planned to achieve mass production in Q2 this year. The price can not be disclosed for the time being, but please rest assured that it must be affordable for consumers, so stay tuned! Here, Lenovo has already adopted the program to invest in new glasses. Other AR companies with C-end product plans are also seeking cooperation. Even some R&D executives of domestic mobile phone brands have come to experience it, preparing them at the C side. AR glasses plan.

ARC: This year CES has become a hot topic in the AI field, and voice recognition has been sent to the public by Tencent. So in the interactive means, which kind of interaction does Nedjia's hardware prefer? Voice, gesture, or eye movement?

Crazybaby wireless smart headset with Tencent

Duan Jiaxi: We basically have adopted them, they all have unique application scenarios, just like mouse/keyboard/touchpad. But with current technology, voice and gestures should be the first choice, for two reasons:

1 User interaction habits, voice learning costs are the lowest, gestures are second, eye movements are the highest, current users, especially consumer groups, the interaction habits of smart devices are very picky and impatient, often because of more than one step, they are bored, Therefore, at present, the cost of interactive learning is too high, and it is difficult to apply it widely in the near future;

2 Complexity, no matter which kind of interaction, can be simple and reliable, low computational complexity, low power consumption, is good.

ARC: So, in the end, can you tell us a little about Nidejia's R&D and market decision-making direction in 2018?

Nedjia X2-AR smart glasses

Duan Jiaxi: It can be said that 2018 is a crucial year for Nedjia.

R&D: Nedgar continues to advance its lead in free-form surfaces, increasing the field of view FOV of free-form optical solutions to at least 60°, providing a full range of product grades for industrial-grade AR glasses while continuing to enhance F2 Performance indicators to meet the performance needs of different C-end AR glasses.

Market: With the completion of the Nanchang and Zhenjiang plants, our annual optical output will increase from 100,000 to 1 million last year. How to convert production capacity into market sales is our biggest challenge in 2018.

In 2017, Nedjia Optics changed from technology to product and successfully entered the market. It became the optical solution provider for domestic AR/VR glasses, such as Lenovo, Liangfengtai, and Mirror (currently sold tens of thousands). .

In 2018, in addition to continuing to expand our domestic market share, Nedjia will also focus on overseas markets and actively expand overseas sales agents. From the results of this CES, we have had a good start: some internationally renowned AR glasses companies began to purchase our products to test their next-generation AR products. At the same time, there are many other industries that have a demand for Nedjia Optics. Due to the confidentiality provisions, I can't reveal too much here, or the phrase "wait and see".

If 2017 is the year of Nidejia's solid foundation, then 2018 is a year for Nedjia to accelerate.
