TI continues to offer scalable solutions as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) continue to be used more and more in a wide range of different functional vehicles. The CMS (Camera Monitoring System) is an emerging ADAS application that replaces both the rear view mirror and the side rear view mirrors with cameras and monitors. These electronic systems have multiple advantages over today's typical mechanical mirrors: Lower air resistance, increasing gasoline mileage Improve visibility and improve safety Support visual analysis Reduce potential costs Improve the aesthetics of the body First, just replacing the side mirrors of the body may reduce the resistance by more than 6% (Figure 1a). Under the same test conditions, the reduction in air resistance can directly increase the mileage of gasoline. In addition, depending on the type of vehicle and side mirrors, replacing the side mirrors with a camera can reduce the overall cost of the car while reducing system cost. In the short term, monitors that replace car mirrors will generally still be placed at approximately the same line of sight to help the driver adapt to the transition and become familiar (Figure 1b). The rear view mirror monitor can be used to display a traditional internal camera and view the barrier-free rear view camera through the switch settings (Fig. 1c). In the future, side monitors may not be integrated inside the car, but only through the rear view monitor, the images of all cameras, ie left, right and back (Figure 2). Of course, this depends on the decision of the car manufacturer and/or government regulations. figure 2 The CMS has made critical improvements in terms of security, improving image/view quality and visual analysis used to avoid accident alarms and/or autonomous functions, both of which can be implemented with such systems. The ability to electronically adjust to different light levels and environmental conditions can significantly improve driver visibility and, in turn, increase the safety of all passengers. Some examples of such features can be found in TI's video for the 2016 International Consumer Electronics Show. In addition, computer vision analysis can be used to provide target detection, distance information, impact time, etc. as a basis for early warning, automatic braking, and/or steering system operation. The above highlighted examples and what is shown in the video can be easily implemented using the processing capabilities of the TI TDA3 processor family. Based on TI's strong experience and expertise in digital signal and vision processing, TDA3 extends TI's broad portfolio of ADAS applications to provide an exceptional choice for customers who require automotive ADAS products.
