Everyone knows that car networking and smart cars are very hot in China. The car networking has changed the weather of the automotive industry. It also allows car companies and Internet company executives to sit together to discuss challenges, opportunities and risks. At the 4th Shenzhen International Embedded Systems Exhibition, Mr. Li Yongsheng, Vice President of R&D from Core Communication Wireless Technology Co., Ltd. and Mr. Yang Hong, Director of Business Development Department, expressed their unique opinions on the Internet of Vehicles.

Mr. Li Yongsheng said that in the field of car networking, technology accumulation is particularly important in order to seize market opportunities. Since its establishment in 2002, Corecom has been committed to the development and production of IoT wireless modules and solutions. The talents have a deep accumulation and have a relatively complete product system and service system. Can provide customers with a total solution from research and development, production, marketing to technical support. Since 2009, the shipment of wireless modules has been at the forefront of the world, which shows that the technical strength is recognized by our customers.

According to Yang Hong, director of business development of Core Communication, the core application of Core Communication is relatively large in the automotive aftermarket. The pre-installation market is gradually intervening, and actively cooperates with communication operators and car companies. Corecom products have been used in a project like Cadillac. In addition, while focusing on the development of wireless modules, Corecom will selectively cooperate with customers to develop some terminal products, in order to integrate more additional functions in the module, such as the need to provide hardware and software interfaces and development environment.

2G is still mainstream, 4G has become a clear trend

At present, operators are accelerating the promotion of 4G. With the old 2G infrastructure and capacity saturation, related companies are actively deploying 4G, coupled with 4G technology evolution and cost reduction, 4G module sales are also showing a clear upward trend. In addition, more and more operators are also trying to influence the development of the Internet of Things industry. For example, operators and power companies have already launched bidding for 4G modules.

At present, in the car-mounted after-loading business of Core Communication, the main quantity is still 2G, accounting for more than 80%. However, we believe that with the development of image audio and video transmission requirements, the demand for 3G modules will gradually increase. In order to transmit high-quality real-time video, 4G will become a clear trend.

According to Mr. Li Yongsheng, first of all, from the application level, such as vehicle tracking, POS machines, electricity meters, security, the amount of data that needs to be transmitted is relatively small, but the stability and reliability of data transmission are very high. From the perspective of current network stability and compatibility, 2G network is the most stable and mature, so 2G is enough. Secondly, from the perspective of cost, the price of 2G module is relatively the cheapest, only 3G module A fraction of it, so 2G is still the mainstream. However, GAC had already taken the 4G module of Corecom to make a preview in Q3 last year. This is the obvious signal that the car enterprise adopts 4G. The core communication 4G module application will be more in the car front loading market. The original 2G application was mainly to do some anti-theft and simple location applications for vehicles, and did not rise to personalized and entertaining applications. 4G applications can bring richer in-vehicle features such as multimedia entertainment, mail delivery, weather and traffic notifications, video conferencing, and more.

Yang Hong stressed that the sales of 3G modules and 4G modules are also showing a clear upward trend. For example, Japan and Europe will value 3G. Some regional 2G networks have been turned off and some will be turned off slowly. In North America, they may want to speed up the pace of 4G. The 4G network layout has covered 90%. Corecom will also increase the development of 4G modules. Subsequent Corecom will continue to increase R&D investment in 4G products, and strive to produce more abundant and cost-effective products to promote the development of the Internet of Vehicles industry.

In addition, due to the long development process of the vehicle enterprise, the backward compatibility of the communication protocol must also be considered. The core communication module products can be backward compatible, so that 2G\3G\4G can smoothly evolve. Moreover, the current 4G facilities are not yet complete, so the current 4G modules must still be backward compatible with 2G/3G to avoid the situation of no network connection. The design of the core communication will not only consider one operator alone, but will consider all three operators if the customer can accept higher design costs.

The car networking market needs more innovation

From the perspective of the development of the Internet of Things, many important industry applications are being innovated. The first one is the traditional power wireless meter reading, which has the fastest development and the best operational process. Subsequent extensions to water meters, gas meter reading, etc. The second is the field of security, such as some security alarms, home security terminals, car security alarms, etc. The overseas market for this application is very large. The third area is the POS machine. Nowadays, many credit card and e-commerce consumption are used offline transactions, which has given birth to the demand of POS machines to some extent.

The fourth is the Internet of Vehicles products. In recent years, the automotive industry is a fast-growing industry. Its annual compound growth rate can reach 40%, and the automotive after-loading market, including driving recorders and car GPS devices, is growing rapidly. In fact, the wireless communication module has long been used in the automotive industry for many applications, such as taxi/bus dispatch management, logistics industry vehicle management, vehicle anti-theft tracking, and dangerous goods transportation tracking. Including the navigation system, with the development of 3G and 4G, the car entertainment system will have a better market prospect in the future, which is also the key area of the core communication.

In view of the innovation of the profit model of the current hardware market, Li Yongsheng, deputy general manager of the core technology wireless technology R&D department, also shared his point of view. The hardware transparency of the communication industry is much higher than that of the software. Pure hardware, the gross profit margin of the enterprise will be It is getting lower and lower. In the future, Corecom will go from three directions:

First, in the traditional module products, add customized software or optimize for a specific application area, for example, help end users to provide software products with specific functions, and increase product added value.

Second, cooperation with operators – including domestic operators and foreign operators (AT&T, Vodafone, etc.), the operators have a good operating philosophy, and Corecom can work with them to make the products better. To open up more and more updated markets.

Third, in the overall solution, work harder, will slowly enter some back-office areas, work hard on the software, so that the value of the product is improved, so that it is possible to increase profits, in order to continue to develop.

In addition, it is worth mentioning that Corecom is also actively deployed in the Beidou vehicle application products, and two modules of Beidou have been launched. SIM68RB and SIM68VB are two mainstream dual-mode modules currently available on the market, which can support both Beidou 2 generation and GPS L1 band reception and resolution positioning. The module features low power consumption, high sensitivity, high positioning accuracy, and short first positioning time. These two products have low requirements on the production process and can be easily integrated into the customer's application products, greatly reducing the development cost and integration cost of the customer.
