According to a report by Bloomberg News, the Chinese taxi platform DDT will enter the Japanese market and join hands with Japan's largest taxi company, the "First Transportation Industry," and is currently negotiating with Japanese taxi operator Daiichi Koutsu. We hope that through the cooperation of both parties, we can provide taxi services for Chinese tourists to Japan.

According to informed sources, the service is expected to be launched in the spring of 2018. By then, Chinese tourists can directly summon Daiichi Koutsu’s taxis and payments through the Didi application in Japan. Since both companies have the investment of Japan Softbank behind them, the two companies will provide taxi service with the aim of targeting more mainland tourists such as Tokyo, Osaka, Kyushu, Hokkaido and Okinawa. The current sharing of private cars is illegal in Japan, so this cooperation with Didi is also aimed at increasing convenience for passengers and taxi operators.

If the two parties reach a cooperation, Didi will have the opportunity to expand their business in one of the world's largest taxi markets. It is understood that the revised program will also be introduced to all users in Japan, providing a broader service for the future expansion of the scope to provide a broader road. In addition, from a potential point of view, the cooperation may begin to appear in the Japanese market in 2013, but Uber has not made much progress so far caused further blows.

According to statistics, a total of 6.4 million Chinese tourists traveled to Japan last year, a figure that has increased six-fold in five years. As of September 2017, a total of 5.6 million Chinese tourists have traveled to Japan, and in the previous fiscal year, the Japanese taxi market revenue also exceeded 1.7 trillion yen (US$15 billion).

Informed sources said that Didi and Daiichi Koutsu’s services will comply with existing taxi regulatory requirements in Japan, such as prohibiting the use of unlicensed taxis. Informed sources also said that according to current consultations, the Didi app will cover most of Daichi Koutsu’s 6,000 taxis in Japan, including all 500 taxis in Tokyo.

In response to this cooperation issue, Didi Travel International expressed to Global Network Technology: “As an open platform, Didi continues to explore extensive cooperation with all parties in Japan. There is currently no specific timetable.”
