When Richard Arm, a researcher at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, succeeded in removing the "He" heart from the open chest, you might think that this is just an ordinary operation.

However, this "patient" before Arm is not human, but a 3D printed human model. Its shape and real people are almost the same, composed of silicone gel and fiber, mainly to simulate the real patient's body in order to give surgeons emergency surgery training.

Arm said that he designed this model to be the ultimate in life, with the purpose of allowing surgeons to experience the rescue situation and prepare for real-life operations that may be faced in the future.

How did the researchers create this model?

From the heart and lungs to the blood vessels, all organs of the model are scanned by CT.

Researchers have used different grades of silicone material to make different parts. In order to simulate the shape of the organ better, even the different parts of the heart have a soft and hard touch.

The skin is also made from 3D printing with sealable silicone, so it can be cut and repaired.

The model's face is even made by real people, so it doesn't look very fake.

Tips: The following pictures may cause discomfort. Children over 18 years old should be accompanied by parents.

For training needs, the model's entire chest can be fully opened and closed for ease of use. In order to more realistically simulate surgery, even a scalpel can be used for cutting and sewing.

Even beards are modeled on real people and lifelike.

When training for surgeons, in order to restore the life-saving rescue process in a more realistic way, “blood” is injected into the model blood vessels to create a blood loss during surgery.

During the training, doctors can also infuse air into the lungs. The intern can also train patients on artificial respiration.

Colonel Peter Mahoney, professor of anesthesiology, said that this played an important role in simulating the surgery and anesthesia training in the military environment. With the advance drills on the time-stretched battlefield, the performance of the doctors will naturally be more calm.

The British Ministry of Defence stated that such two models will be put into training in 2017. In addition, it will also focus on the production of local organs, including the heart, brain and blood vessels. The team has even made a complete vascular system of the human leg.

The director of the project, Prof. Tilak Dias of the University of Nottingham, said:

"By enhancing the actual experience of surgeons, we are full of confidence that they will be able to fully prepare for the actual surgery and use their own medical skills to save more lives."

After staring at these pictures for a long time, it is worthwhile for everyone to say that Lei Fengwang (searching "Lei Feng Net" public concern) Xiao Bian also feels that the bloody rescue scene can be accepted, not to mention the doctors who have been fighting in the future.
